Thank you for visiting the website of Christ the King School! Whether it’s your first virtual visit or you’re a longtime friend of our school, we welcome you and hope our site will be helpful and informative.
Living the faith is not only in our morning prayer, but it also comes through our vision and mission. We work to prepare our students for what life brings and to depend on our Catholic faith for strength and guidance. Our faith in God is at the core of our school. Our Faith Guidelines help us through the everyday and lay an important foundation for our future. We need God now. We know He is here for us, and He will be there with us in the future, as well. This is our belief and our faith.
We are humbled and blessed to be entrusted with the education of our students in life and faith, and we look forward to new generations starting with us on their journey of learning, life, and faith.
Christ the King Church was founded in 1945 and held its first Mass in its current location on an early summer day in 1946. Our church further expanded its service to Central Kentucky when Christ the King Church was chosen on March 2, 1988, as the home for the Diocese of Lexington and is now the Cathedral of Christ the King.
In the fall of 1951, Christ the King School opened its doors, staffed by the Sisters of Divine Providence, and has consistently responded to the growing needs of our parish community. The Sisters of Divine Providence were committed to the administration of Christ the King School until 1985 when lay professionals took up the work of these wonderful women.
For over seventy years, the enthusiasm and initiative of our school administration, parish priests, faculty, and staff have contributed to the formation of a state–of–the–art school community in which students may learn in the comfort and knowledge that their education is a top priority. The success of our school is due in large part to the special relationship that has always existed between the parish and school community.
Christ the King School develops Character, Knowledge and Spirit in its students and community by living the Catholic faith through sharing the sacraments, promoting academic excellence, and engaging in service.
CKS students will live the Catholic faith in a global society.
Our FAITH guidelines act as a gentle reminder for our students to always find Christ in everything they do. The mission of our parish Catholic school stipulates values in three basic areas: character, knowledge, and spirit. Our FAITH guidelines touch all three areas and provide basic, positive tenets for our entire school community to follow. The FAITH guidelines are:
In 2005 and 2017, Christ the King School was named a "Blue Ribbon School" by the U.S. Department of Education, a school recognition and improvement program. For over 30 years, the Blue Ribbon program has identified and awarded national recognition to a diverse group of public and private schools that are especially effective in meeting local, state, and national goals. The characteristics which singled out Christ the King School as a leader among schools included strong leadership; a clear vision and sense of mission shared by all connected with the school; high–quality teaching; appropriate, up–to–date curriculum; policies and practices that ensure a safe environment conducive to learning; strong parental interest and involvement; and evidence that the school helps all students achieve, no matter what their ability level. Such a mix of high standards, family involvement, and an emphasis on achievement by the students, faculty, and school leadership continues to be a top priority as we prepare our students to become our leaders in the 21st century.
The school staff is prepared to care for children in critical situations. Teachers review comprehensive emergency plans annually and practice with the children periodically throughout the school year. Parents may review these plans at the school office.
Many updates have been made to Christ the King School’s Safety Plan for the 2023-24 school year.
